Psychiatry Residency Program- Current Residents


Mercy Blanco, MD: Dr. Mercy Blanco Mercy completed her undergraduate studies in Biology and Psychology at Florida International University.  In 2019 she graduated from the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine with her MD degree. She currently lives in Miami and was born in Florida. Dr. Blanco speaks English and Spanish. Her hobbies and interests include yoga, hiking, nature, sight-seeing, travel, exploring the world, experiencing new things, bike riding, long walks, fitness, music, music festivals, art, art festivals, helping others, and community service.


Lissa Alexandra Garcia Segui, MD: Dr. Lissa Garcia Segui completed her undergraduate studies in Nursing at the University of Puerto Rico.  She earned her MD degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) School of Medicine, Santo Domingo in 2019.  Dr. Garcia Seui was born in Puerto Rico and currently lives in Miami. She speaks English, Spanish, as well as American Sign Language. Her hobbies and interests include backpacking, traveling, cultural exchange, Sign Language, deaf culture, and mixed martial arts.


Nelson Ramos Negron, MD: Dr. Ramos Negron completed his undergraduate studies in General Science/ Medicine at Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. He earned his MD degree from the Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine in 2018.  Dr. Ramos Negron was born in Puerto Rico and currently resides in Miami. He speaks English, Spanish, and basic Italian. He described his hobbies and interests follows: Most recent hobby includes deep exploring of Puerto Rico's rivers and waterfalls. He also enjoys photography, which he mostly has been taking in those settings.  When he feels like a break, the movie theatre is one of his go-to places. He also enjoys documentaries and series, his favorite being The Office (U.S.) Another of his interests is visiting new places and appreciating new surroundings. He has visited around 20 countries and his favorite so far is Switzerland, particularly a village called Lauterbrunnen.


William Alexander Zambrano, MD: Dr. William Zambrano completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at Florida International University.  He earned his MD degree from the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara Facultad de Medicina Guadalajara in 2015.  He currently lives in Miami where he was also born. Dr. Zambrano speaks English and Spanish. His hobbies and interests include soccer, playing the guitar, hiking, walking his dogs, and swimming with his wife and daughter.


Emilio Bustamante, MD: Dr. Emilio Bustamante, received his medical degree from Universidad de Ciencias Medicas de la Habana, in Havana, Cuba, in 1998. After coming to the United States, he worked in various positions within the mental health field. He chose Psychiatry because he believes the mind plays a pivotal role in the life of a human being and society. His interests include spending time outdoors, visiting national parks with his family, and breeding exotic plants and fish.


Raymond Gonzales, MD: Dr. Raymond Gonzales received his MD degree from American University of the Caribbean, in St. Maarten in December 2017. His main interest is in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. His other interests include, music production as well as playing guitar and piano, outdoor activities, hiking, ultimate frisbee, staying current with the NFL and NBA, longboarding, concerts, and attending music festivals.


Emanuel Martinez, MD: Dr. Emanuel Martinez received his MD degree from FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) in 2018. Dr Martinez was part of the Psychiatry Interest Group at the HWCOM since its inception. He has been interested in psychiatry since he started medical school and has rotated in various fields of psychiatry including child and adolescent, forensics and inpatient adult psychiatry. His interests include spending time with his family and friends, traveling, playing soccer, and fishing.


Mailyn Santana, MD: Dr. Mailyn Santana received her MD degree from University of Medicine and Health Science, St Kitts, in 2018. Prior to that, she graduated from FIU with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She decided to pursue Psychiatry because it was one of her favorite subjects in medical school. Her interests include salsa dancing, traveling, live music, and do it yourself home projects. 


Elena Estrada, MD:  Originally from California, Dr. Elena Estrada received her MD degree from Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, in December 2016. Prior to that, she graduated from Stanford University with a double major in biology and Spanish. In her free time, she enjoys Spanish language poetry, This American Life podcast, movies, especially by Ridley Scott or Ron Howard.


Jordanne King, MD: Originally from Jamaica, Dr. Jordanne King received her MD degree from American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, in October 2016. Prior to that, she graduated from Williams College with a degree in Theatre. In her free time, she enjoys medical history, dance (salsa, argentine tango and hip hop), canine agility and disc training, clay sculpture and travel.


Mahmood “Emon” Hossain, DO: Dr. Mahmood “Emon” Hossain received his DO degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. Having grown up in Arkansas, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from University of Arkansas’ Little Rock campus and following medical school graduation, began working in opioid abuse research at the Psychiatric Research Institute on University of Arkansas’ Medical Sciences campus. He completed his preliminary medicine year of residency at Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey and joins us as a PGY-2. His interests include child, adolescent, and cross-cultural psychiatry, traveling, live music, kickboxing, and following the NBA’s Houston Rockets.


Gabriel Sanchez, MD: Dr. Gabriel Sanchez received his MD degree from Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida, in 2014. Prior to that, he graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He has completed two years as a Pathology Resident at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. He decided to pursue Psychiatry, because it was one of his favorite subjects in medical school and he missed interacting with patients. He enjoys riding his bicycle, fishing, playing guitar, going to the beach, barbequing, and spending time with his friends.


Alen Hidalgo, MD: Dr. Alen Hidalgo received his MD degree Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) School of Medicine, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2011. After he graduated medical school he worked as a Physician Assistant and House Physician at Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami. He chose Psychiatry because he believes the mind plays a pivotal role in the life of a human being and society. His interests outside of psychiatry are spending time with his wife, son and family, and practicing outdoor activities such as sailing, off-roading, camping etc. He is very inquisitive about new places to explore and get to know.


Arturo Rodriguez, MD: Dr. Arturo Rodriguez received his MD degree from Escuela Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas de Centro America (UCIMED) in San Jose, Costa Rica in 2005. He came to the United States in 1994 from Cuba. Prior to medical school he helped manage and run a family owned Pharmacy throughout Miami-Dade County. Since completing medical school, he has worked as a Medical Assistant in various parts of Miami. Dr. Rodriguez enjoys cooking, playing sports, fishing, and spending time with his wife and two sons.
